The M.Ed./ Tier 1 Educational Leadership Program (EDEL) at Georgia College & State University is an inclusive cohort, fully on-line program for M.Ed. candidates seeking a degree and Non-Degree candidates seeking certification.
M.Ed. candidates complete 36 semester hours (two six-hour, fully online courses per semester across fall, spring, and summer).
Non-Degree certification only candidates complete 18 semester hours (one six-hour, fully online course per semester across fall, spring, and summer).
All candidates can complete the program in only one academic year, consisting of three semesters beginning every fall.
Each candidates works with an experienced partner mentor and university EDEL professors who provide individualized guidance, feedback, and ongoing professional support. All candidates complete a 250-hour residency that offers extensive opportunities to develop leadership competencies across all Georgia Educational Leadership Standards (GELS). This residency is conducted under the supervision of the university EDEL professors and with the guidance of the candidates' partner mentors. University EDEL professors provide one-on-one instruction and coaching to each candidate.
The EDEL program is grounded in personalized, contextualized learning, with an intentional focus on relevance and meaning, to prepare reflective educational leaders who create lasting impact in their communities by independently and leading creatively.
Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are prepared to meet not only the coursework requirement, residency, and certification requirement for Tier 1 Educational Leadership through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, but also the complexities and nuances of educational leadership.
Option 1: Applicants who have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75 from a regionally accredited university may be considered for admission to College of Education graduate programs.
Option 2: Applicants who have completed an undergraduate degree with an overall GPA between 2.5 and 2.74 from a regionally accredited university and hold 3 successful years of teaching experience, as documented by a letter from the current employer, may be considered for admission to a College of Education graduate program.
